SANDwiches at the Carbon
Rocks, sand and a picnic along the Carbon make for some cute pictures and an entertaining afternoon.
We've recently found our way down to the Carbon River in Orting. I've been there fishing as kid with my Dad and as an adult with my husband. We'd park the car, grab the gear and take a quick walk to a fishing spot on the river and call it good. On a sunny day this past week I really needed to wear Monster-Man out, it was almost lunch time and after lunch is a much needed nap except he was still ready and raring to go! So I packed us some sandwiches, fruitsnacks and water and headed for Orting.
We parked on Bridge St SE in the little parking area on the river, and started to walk down the gravel path that runs parelle to the river (the path ends at the Foothills Trail). My goal was to get down to the big sandbar, sit on a log with the baby and let him play and play. Monster-man's goal was a little different, we stopped every 5ft on the path to check out different rocks, flowers/weeds, sticker bushes and to look at the other people out enjoying the flat gravel path & sunny day.
He made me stop and look at the different things that attracked his eye, there were several small waterfalls on the far side of the river, while it may have taken 15min to walk the short way to our destination it was fun seeing him enjoy the little things of life. When we finally made it to the sandbar, we walked to one end where there was shallow water, sand and rocks - things that make a little boys day. We skipped rocks in the river, dug holes in the sand and made sandcastles. We took a short break to eat our lunch and Monster-Man kept stopping to run and dig a new hole then come back and eat some more, so who knows how much sand he ate with his sandwich!

When we got home, my mission to wear him out was accomplished and I ended up with some super cute pictures! Little Miss slept through the entire thing and on the next sunny day we are going back to explore along the river and see if there are any other cool new spots for picnics on the river!
*To get to the sandbar we were at, from the Bridge St SE entrance go right down the path and watch for the sandbar, there are rocks along the side hill of the gravel path and then just past there are some trees with a (steep) down hill trail to it, Monster-Man was able to walk down & climb up with very little assistance, but if you take a stroller you will need an extra set of hands to get it down & back up. The gravel path is jogging stroller friendly!
