Under my umbrella (Ella ella eh eh eh)

This is what happened in my week of internship

Kids Club on Monday brought in Last Leaf Productions performance of Aesop’s Fables. They brought in characters like a fox, and a sheep. Just as the play was starting a local neighbor decided to mow their lawn, but it didn’t seem to phase the actors or kids who enjoyed the 45 minute show.

Kids Club on Tuesday brought in Matt Baker a comedian, stunt performer. He interacted with the kids in the audience for his tricks and they all looked like they had a good time.

Baker ended the show with kicking a 7-pound bowling ball onto his head and balancing it, which got the crowd going (it was pretty impressive!) He escaped handcuffs with ease, and juggled hats.

Tunes @ Tapps was a hit this week. Junction City was on stage at 6:30 Wednesday, and brought in quite a crowd. Songs ranged from Guns and Roses and Journey, to Carrie Underwood and Kid Rock, Pink, Pat Benetar, and Bon Jovi. The band was loud and ready to rock the night.

Relay for Life set up started yesterday by moving the stage onto a truck and trailer, then moving and setting up each piece today (Thursday) at Bonney Lake High School. With help from many Parks Department guys we finished quick and did not have any problems. Relay for Life starts tomorrow (Friday) at 4 pm.

A project that I have been working on while in the office this week has been getting the mapping done for Bonney Lake Days. While it is almost completed, it is far from it. Everyone has a spot that is not next to a competitor and there is a wide variety of new vendors this year which is exciting. Part of working on the map is learning about the power boxes, what the different terminology is (Volts, boxes, amps, etc.), and how much each vendor needs and how much we have in each spot. This leads to a confusing amount of information needed. This week, learning about power was the greatest achievement! My grandpa would be so proud.

I learned what certain types of insurance are too!

Another lesson I have learned is that working with so many different people sometimes messages get passed around so much that they end somewhere in the middle like the game of telephone. Everyone has so many ideas that sometimes they clash and it doesn’t work out. This is the unglamorous part of event coordinating, the task of sorting out the needs and wants and trying to make the best situation out of everyone’s ideas, but in reality doing what you know is best for the situation. It is a lesson that everyone can use for life, not just events.
