Daffodil Royalty Tea

Daffodils and Royalty. This weekend the opening event for the Sumner Historical Society will be our Daffodil Royalty Tea. On Sunday, March 30th, at 2 pm, Queen Marissa Modestowicz and our local princesses will be in attendance. The Sumner Museum is located at 1228 Main Street, downtown Sumner. This is a free event, and open to the public.

The Society’s collection of Daffodil Festival photographs and artifacts will be on display throughout the house. The Sumner Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm from April through August. A suggested donation is $1 for adults, and $.25 for children. We are a Blue Star Museum, and invite active military and their families to visit for free.

A new project for the Society is our Sumner Rhubarb Cookbook. We will be collecting all of the recipes we can find containing rhubarb! If you have a favorite rhubarb recipe to share, please send it to us. Your name, and something about where the recipe came from, will be appreciated. The cutoff for recipes will be June 10, 2014. Our mailing address is: Sumner Historical Society, PO Box 517, Sumner, WA 98390. Electronically: museum@ci.sumner.wa.us.

Our collection of everything rhubarb is growing. If you were a rhubarb farmer and have photographs or stories, we would like to hear from you.

Sumner’s Rhubarb Days, July 12 and 13, will find the Sumner Museum and grounds a hub of activity. Our first Sumner Rhubarb Floral Contest & Display will be on the porch. Entry information will be available on our website. The Rhubarb Racers, a hit from the original Rhubarb Days event, will be created and raced on the front lawn. The Whitworth Monument on the front lawn will be the center of a display commemorating the days when Sumner was a college town. Whitworth College has been in Spokane for 100 years, but it began in Sumner as the Whitworth Academy.
