How did you go from training in London to having your own studio in Sumner? My family is from Sumner. My grandfather built the house that the is in now. I lived here when I was little, but later moved to California. That is where I began working in hair about 30 years ago. I trained with a very successful woman in San Francisco while I was going to beauty school. I completed an advanced 2,300-hour school. I wanted to do more, so I went to London and trained at both the Vidal Sassoon and the Jingles schools. These were advanced training with hands on, all day. We went into hair theory, nutrition, and cosmetology - feet, nails and facials. The salon I worked at in San Francisco did hair for fashion shows, which was great training.
Later, I married a man from Norway and moved there. I did hair for the TV news people. I learned the language and had my three kids there. I was not happy, so I moved back to this area to be with family. I just moved forward figuring it would work itself out, and it has. I have worked in a salon in Federal Way to make the money to open my own place. I still work there a few days a week.

So why hair? I don't know. I have just always been interested in hair since I was little. I remember I used to cut my dog's hair. I have liked to style hair as long as I can remember.
What has been your greatest accomplishment? Clippings For Kenya! In June 2010, my son and I went on a mission trip to Kenya. My church pastor, Cliff, helped me figure out ways to raise the funds to go. We raised $6,000 through auctions, donations, jewelry sales and other fundraisers. We went to and orphanage and worked with the kids. We focused on education and feeding programs. It was so rewarding. I would go back tomorrow if I could.
What is a dream of yours? I would like to have a big farmhouse and use it to teach, to educate others about the whole body and ways to keep it healthy. I could do so much with it. I could have health and wellness camps, book camps, etc. I went to Africa, I feel like I can do anything. When I put my mind to something, I can do it. However, the important part is to keep your mind to it. I know how to keep myself mentally healthy and I want to share that.
