Teen Swimmer Rescued from Lake Tapps Dies at Hospital

19-year-old Kent resident Marques Weekly was rescued from drowning in Lake Tapps late Sunday afternoon but passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital that evening.

UPDATE 1:26 PM 8/6/12:

The Pierce County Medical Examiner has confirmed that the drowning victim is 19-year-old Marques Weekly from Kent.

The 19 year-old man passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital, Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer tweeted at 10:13 p.m.

This is the third drowning death on Lake Tapps this year.

A young man was rescued from drowning Sunday after he went under the water while swimming at Pierce County Park on Lake Tapps, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Dive teams from EPFR, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the scene just before 5:30 p.m. They found the young man approximately 15 minutes after the first crews arrived.

He was transported by boat to a waiting medic unit. Firefighter-paramedics treated the patient at the scene and transported him to a local hospital.
