Earthquake Hits In Between Bonney Lake, Sumner

The relatively strong quake struck just before 11 a.m. Friday and was centered underneath SR 410.

SUMNER, WA - A measurable earthquake hit in an area between Bonney Lake and Sumner late Friday morning, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. The magnitude 2.7 quake is relatively large for the area. The quake was very shallow at about 1.93 miles and was located near a bend in SR 401 near 166th Avenue Northeast.

The quake was strong enough to be felt by people in Bonney Lake, Tacoma, and even as far north as Seattle, according to the PNSN.

The quake is the largest to hit the Puget Sound area since a magnitude 3.7 struck near Quilcene on June 15. Bonney Lake was the site of a small swarm of quakes back in March and April. Four tiny quakes, all around a magnitude 1, hit along the edge of the plateau within a three-week span.
