East Pierce Firefighters Raise Money for Community
The 16th Annual East Pierce Fire and Rescue Pancake Feed, held to support community needs, was a huge success.
The took place on December 3. Both on- and off-duty Firefighters, new Sumner councilman Mike LeMaster and numerous volunteers were on hand to prepare pancake batter, flip flapjacks, serve breakfast and wipe and clear tables all for a great cause. For a $3 donation, members of the community dined on a pancake and ham breakfast with milk and juice and listened to a performance by the Victor Falls Elementary School choir sing Christmas carols.
An estimated 700 people came through the doors of the Sumner Fire Station this year between the hours of 7 a.m. and noon, raising over $3500 in this event alone.
Rex and Cindy Orcutt, organizers of the annual event for the past six years, donated money on behalf of East Pierce Fire & Rescue to the Sumner–Bonney Lake Family Center, where proceeds directly benefit our community members in need. As the East Pierce department continues to merge and grow, so does the need – now servicing the cities of Bonney Lake, Lake Tapps, South Prairie, Sumner, Milton, Puyallup and Edgewood.

Taking wish lists from area schools, the Orcutt’s turn donations into holiday gifts to help every child have a Christmas. The Bonney Lake Walmart generously offers a discount to the massive purchase which will include gifts for over 600 children this holiday. Additional assistance is offered to those seeking help through the Sumner – Bonney Lake Family Center.
The annual breakfast event also serves as a donation center each holiday for food donations as well as new or gently used outerwear and sleeping bags.
