Help Needed on Bonney Lake/Sumner Community Float for Daffodil Festival

Did you know without a Bonney Lake/Sumner Daffodil Festival Community Float, neither Bonney Lake or Sumner High School would not be able to have a Daffodil Princess?

The Sumner Downtown Association took on the responsibility of storing, insuring, decorating, designing, and managing the Community Float for many years.  This year, we are in need of volunteers to Chair or Co-Chair the float decorating team as well as volunteers to decorate the float.  additionally, we need folks to participate in the parade by walking alongside or driving the float, a chaperone team to guide the float from each community and materials or supplies to construct the float.

For many years Ben DeGoede of Windmill Gardens donated countless hours as the lead for our float.  He built a strong team of volunteers to work along side him as they prepared the float for the parade.  Sherm Voyles, Jon Swanson and John Skinner have all their hands in one major aspect or another when it came to the operation or maintenance of the float.  When Ben DeGoede had to step down after the 2012 Daffodil Parade to care for his aging parents, an important link was lost.  Many of his team opted to take a step back as well.  When you consider the many upon many years and hours of volunteer time they committed to during the Daffodil Festival, it was understandable.

SDA is in serious need of assistance from the community, the schools and local businesses from both Bonney Lake and Sumner to ensure our float continues to carry on our long-standing tradition as award winning participants in the 81st Daffodil Parade.

If you would be interested, we have a float committee meeting Wednesday, February 12th at 906 Kincaid Ave at 6 pm.  Please call our office at 253-891-4260.
