Dirty Rags Likely Caused Bonney Lake House Fire
Firefighters were called to a fire in a home east of Lake Tapps on Wednesday morning.
BONNEY LAKE, WA — A small fire at a Bonney Lake home on Wednesday was likely caused by improperly stored rags, according to East Pierce Fire.
The fire broke out around 7 a.m. Wednesday east of Lake Tapps along 53rd Street Court East. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof. Once inside, they found a fire next to a wall in the garage. The fire was out in about five minutes.
According to East Pierce Chief Bud Backer, one of the people living in the home said that rags used in a staining project were being stored in the garage. Oily or stain-soaked rags are a known spontaneous combustion risk.
