Lake Tapps Algae Bloom Update: Keep An Eye Out
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has received test results from an apparent blue-green algae bloom at Lake Tapps.

BONNEY LAKE, WA - Boaters and swimmers are in luck: tests have shown that there is no blue-green algae outbreak in Lake Tapps. But health officials are still warning water-users to be careful.
Here's what the Cascade Water Alliance said in a statement Thursday:
"The Tacoma Pierce County Health Department states βthe toxin results for the algae sample collected from Lake Tapps on July 18, 2018 were below levels of concernβ. The Health Department checked the lake again at numerous shoreline locations July 24 and did not observe any toxic algae. They continue to recommend that people avoid areas of algae or visible scum β when in doubt, stay out."

Blue-green algae is toxic to humans and pets. It's especially harmful to children and small animals, and can even cause death. Otherwise, it can cause symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, a skin rash. Blue-green algae blooms thrive in warm-weather conditions - so be on the lookout.
