Lake Tapps Neighbors Raise Money For Neighbors' Fire-Damaged Home

The fire happened Saturday afternoon northeast of Lake Tapps.

BONNEY LAKE, WA – A group of Lake Tapps-area neighbors have banded together to raise money for a local couple whose home was destroyed in a fire on Saturday.

The fire broke out in the chimney of the home on Saturday afternoon. The homeowner and a neighbor tried to put the fire out, but due to freezing temperatures, were unable to get enough water on the fire. The homeowners grabbed their granddaughter, dog, and cars, and watched their home nearly burn to the ground.

East Pierce firefighters posted this photo of the home on Facebook.

Because there was no fire hydrant nearby, East Pierce firefighters were continuously running out of water and were unable to salvage the home.

β€œThey made it out with only the smoky clothes on their backs, and their two cars. They lost absolutely everything else,” wrote neighbor Jeff Marsh on the GoFundMe page for the family.

The fundraiser is a little more than halfway toward its goal of raising $15,000 for the homeowners.
