Lake Tapps Toxic Algae Advisory Lifted
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health department lifted the toxic algae advisory Wednesday afternoon.

BONNEY LAKE, WA - After more than three weeks, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has lifted its toxic algae advisory for Lake Tapps. The advisory went into effect Aug. 1 after an algae bloom was spotted at the northwest end of the lake.
Toxic algae is easy to see - it turns water either opaque and brownish or neon-green. Coming into contact with the algae, either by swallowing water or brushing up against it, can cause skin irritation, muscle weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. Toxic algae is more harmful to pets, according to an advisory issued by the city of Bonney Lake, because animals are more likely to drink contaminated water.
Even though the advisory has been lifted, avoid any water that appears be contaminated with toxic algae.
