Gas prices in the Bonney Lake and Sumner area are tipping the $4 mark for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel as road trip season approaches, but prices aren't expected to reach the levels seen in 2012.
According to NPR, national gas prices are about 15 percent lower than this time last year, due to a spike in crude oil production.
But, the pain at the pump is still very real for the average consumer. With Memorial Day only two weeks away, gas prices in Tacoma are averaging at $4.02 per gallon, according to AAA. Just a year ago, regular unleaded fuel cost $4.25.
On GasBuddy.com, cheapest gas in Bonney Lake can be found at the ARCO on State Route 410 East and Old Sumner Buckley Highway, at $3.83 per gallon. Other affordable options include Safeway ($3.85), Fred Meyer ($3.89) and Chevron ($3.97).
In Sumner, Fred Meyer on Vally Avenue sells the cheapest gas at $3.83 per gallon. Also at ARCO on Main Street and Shell on 166th Avenue East, prices are $4.05 and $4.09, respectively.
