Pierce Co. Bike Patrol Fighting Crime On Foothills Trail

The sheriff's first bike patrol in 15 years recently shut down a homeless camp near Sumner.

SUMNER, WA - The first Pierce County Sheriff bike patrol in more than 15 years has been patrolling the Foothills Trail all summer. The department says bike officers recently shut down a homeless camp littered with drug paraphernalia.

On Saturday, two bike patrol deputies were riding along a section of the trail near SR 162 in Sumner. The officers heard noises coming from the woods nearby. When they went to investigate, they found four people at a camp.

During a search of the camp, the deputies found over 15 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and cash. They also found that two of the people at the camp had two outstanding warrants. The two men were arrested.

"Our deputies will be back out on two wheeled patrol this weekend, so if you are a good guy please give them a wave... and if you are a bad guy please take your drugs someplace else or we will gladly do it for you! the sheriff's office wrote in a Facebook post about the incident.
