Restore and Explore the Buckley Forest Preserve!

We will spend the morning removing invasive blackberry to help maintain healthy habitat for the many animals that call the preserve home, including Rocky Mountain Elk, Blacktail Deer, Bobcat, American Black Bear and Bald Eagle. 

Stick around after and explore the over four miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding that traverse through the Preserve!

Site Description
The 206-acre Buckley Forestland Preserve was conserved in October 2012 by Pierce County Parks and Recreation, Forterra, and an active coalition of neighbors who all realized the Preserve’s potential for open space and passive recreational use.  Pierce County Parks and Recreation and Forterra jointly manage the Preserve with the goal of not only restoring habitat for native species on the property but also to enhance the recreational experiences of the surrounding community and visiting public in a manner consistent with the needs of the local environment and wildlife. 

Where to meet: The Preserve is located off 134th St E in Buckley WA.  Drive south on Highway 165 from Buckley. 134th St E will be on your left approximately 2 miles south of the town of Buckley. Follow the FORTERRA event signs down this gravel road to a small parking area on the left.  Meet at the green FORTERRA tent.  Parking is limited so please carpool.

What to bring:  Please dress for the weather - rain or shine. Wear close-toed shoes, long pants and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.  (Boots and rain gear are a good idea if it has been raining, as the site can get muddy) Bring a water bottle.

Tools, training and refreshments will be provided. No experience is necessary!
