BONNEY LAKE, WA -State Route 410 from Sumner to Bonney Lake in Pierce County will remain closed to all travelers through the weekend and into next week, the Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The Sumner Grade Fire closed a stretch of SR410 on Monday from 166th Avenue East to Veterans Memorial Drive. The closure will remain in place through Monday, Sept. 14 and officials said the reopening date could change as fire conditions change.

In order for the highway to reopen, the Department of Transportation maintenance crews will need to replace a long section of burned guardrail and will need to inspect the hillside for large rocks or other debris that could fall onto the highway.

Drivers are reminded to heed "road closed" signage in the area, as closures are in place for safety and to allow crews to conduct necessarily repairs.
