Sumner Police Search For Man Wanted In Fred Meyer Robbery

Police said a bundled-up man carrying a 49ers backpack walked into the Sumner Fred Meyer and demanded cash from a customer service clerk.

SUMNER, WA — The Sumner Police Department is asking for help identifying a man who robbed a Fred Meyer clerk Sunday. Police said the man entered the store on 1201 Valley Avenue around 4:15 p.m. Jan. 26. The suspect was captured on surveillance wearing sunglasses and black clothing, with a gray scarf and a red San Francisco 49ers backpack.

The victim told police the man approached the customer service counter and handed them a note demanding money be put in a grocery bag. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect enter a light-colored sedan that was waiting at a nearby apartment complex. Police said the vehicle sped away before they arrived.
