'Sumner University' Returns For 2017 Semester

Get a PhD in Sumner-nomics with the city's series of behind-the-scenes tours.

SUMNER, WA - City officials are inviting anyone with an interest in Sumner to come get their degree in Sumner-nomics.

The city is kicking off a series of behind-the-scenes tours called Sumner University in February. The courses are open to residents, business owners, or anyone who's interested in learning more about the city.

The classes begin in February, and all graduates get a diploma and a T-shirt. The best part: you only have to go to one class to graduate. You can sign up online here.

Here's the class schedule:

Waste Not, Want Not - February 28, 6 p.m. Get an insider's tour of the Wastewater Treatment Facility and learn about the environmental, technical and chemical processes that protect our water system.

Historic Sampler of Sumner - March 28, 6 p.m. Includes visit to Ryan House, Sumner City Cemetery and narrated driving tour of historic sites in Sumner.

Windish Winnebago Tour - April 25, 6 p.m. Get a driving tour of new and upcoming projects around Sumner, hosted by Community Development Director Ryan Windish.

Let's Talk Shop Tour - May 23, 6 p.m. Join an exclusive tour of City's Shops, taking a look at equipment such as excavators, vac trucks and how City staff use these tools to keep things flowing and going in Sumner.

The Future of "Mayberry" - June 27, 6 p.m. Tour the Sumner Police Department, including a look at a current patrol vehicle. Then, join Police staff, Mayor Enslow and Councilmembers for coffee and donuts to review what's working in Sumner and what we can do to make it better.
