Warm Weather Crime Hits Eaglecrest
The Eaglecrest community was hit with theft and vandalism over the weekend.
Editors Note: The following is a description of recent events as told by Brienna McWade, a Patch columnist and Eaglecrest resident. Patch will follow up with Pierce County Sheriff as soon as more information is available.
Recently, the residents from Easttown's Eaglecrest community have seen an increase in crime -- right in their driveways.
This past Saturday morning, estimated between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., a home was burglarized in broad daylight during the community's annualΒ garage sale. The owners of the home were at an area swimming pool for less than two hours and returned to a compromisedΒ slider; their home ransacked for jewelry and other high value items.

This event comes on the heels of a development-wide string of car vandalisms that included shattered car windows, only one week prior. It may be of good fortune that some members in the community have nighttime video surveillance and may be close to determining the culprits of the vandalism. The vandals are thought to be local teenagers, though it is uncertain if it is an isolated act or also part of the home invasion.
Residents are understandably on edge and on the lookout for unfamiliar cars and pedestrian traffic. There is much talk about a heightened approach to home security, in what is typically a sleepy family neighborhood.
