BONNEY LAKE, WA — A man suspected of stabbing his ex-wife several times on Thursday night, then fleeing into the woods, is now in custody according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. Deputies arrived at a house on 138th Street East shortly before 10 p.m. There they found a critically injured woman with her three young children nearby. The kids were not physically harmed and have been placed in protective care.

Investigators believe their suspect, the victim's 36-year-old ex-husband, fled the scene and hid for several hours. Search teams combed the area with K9s on the ground and helicopters in the air throughout Thursday night, but did not locate him. Early Friday evening, detectives said the man knocked on the door of a house and asked someone to call an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital with stabbing injuries. Detectives said he will soon be booked on attempted murder charges.
