1. Early notice: Wooooo! Westside Halloween festivities await! (westsideseattle.com) — Families in Burien can look forward to several free Halloween outings, including Boo-in-Burien trick-or-treating downtown and a Trunk-or-Treat at the Burien Elks Lodge. The roundup also highlights nearby celebrations in West Seattle and White Center, with parades, haunted houses, games, and storytimes giving local kids plenty of chances to show off their costumes.
2. Have you registered yet? Burien's 17th annual Brat Trot returns Saturday, Oct. 3 to help Highline Schools Foundation (b-townblog.com) — Downtown Burien will be packed this Saturday, Oct. 3, for the 17th annual Brat Trot, a family-friendly 5K and kids' run raising money for the Highline Schools Foundation. With stroller- and dog-friendly routes, block party, beer gardens, kids' activities, and team prizes for local schools and community groups, organizers urge residents to register by Oct. 2.
3. Man pleads guilty to manufacturing fentanyl before sentencing in Burien case (b-townblog.com) — A man linked to drug activity in two Burien apartments has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after jurors convicted him on multiple felony counts involving fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. King County prosecutors had sought three years, citing aggravating factors tied to fentanyl, but a judge imposed a shorter concurrent sentence plus a year of community custody.
4. Seattle minimum wage will rise to over $22 an hour in 2027 (komonews.com) — Burien currently has one of the highest minimum wages in Washington, slightly ahead of Seattle and Tukwila, but Seattle's rate is set to jump to $22.14 on Jan. 1, 2027. The increase is tied to inflation in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area, reflecting rising costs for essentials like food and gas.
