Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Improvements Underway at Chelan PUD's Chelan, Manson Parks (lakechelannow.com) — If you frequent Chelan's waterfront parks, expect temporary closures this fall and winter as upgrades move ahead at Riverwalk, Manson Bay, and Old Mill parks. Work includes a new plaza tied to the city's lift station project, a replaced marina breakwater, and a new dock, all aimed at improving access and shoreline protection by next spring.
2. Chelan explores water, power savings to help replace golf course irrigation (lakechelanmirror.com) — Chelan city leaders are weighing a detailed audit to see if cutting water and power costs at Lake Chelan Golf Course could help pay to replace its failing 50-year-old irrigation system. The proposed McKinstry study would map out project costs, utility savings, and financing options, while the city separately decides who will operate the course going forward.
3. Forest Service fall prescribed burns could bring smoke to Wenatchee Valley, Leavenworth, Manson (leavenworthecho.com) — If you live near Lake Chelan, Wenatchee, Leavenworth or Manson, expect periods of smoke this fall as the Forest Service burns slash piles across the Entiat and Chelan ranger districts. Crews will only light piles when weather and air quality conditions are safe, but some burns—especially near Ardenvoir and west of Manson—could be highly visible, so residents are urged to monitor air quality and follow smoke-health tips.
4. Washington's historic wildfire season leaves a new flooding threat in its wake (king5.com) — Residents around Lake Chelan face a new danger this winter as experts warn that burned hillsides from the Little Giant Fire could send debris flows and flooding toward roads and communities when heavy rains arrive. A federal BAER team is mapping the most at-risk slopes above Lake Chelan and across Chelan County so local officials can target protections and clearly communicate ongoing hazards after this historic fire season.
5. Community Foundation of NCW marks 40 years with $170,000 gift match (lakechelanmirror.com) — A regional foundation that serves Chelan County is celebrating 40 years by matching local donations dollar for dollar, up to nearly $170,000, through June 2027. The Community Foundation of North Central Washington, originally funded by the sale of Chelan County Medical Service Corp. assets, now manages $189 million to support grants, scholarships, and nonprofit programs across the region.
