• Cheney weighs ending water fluoridation as city faces infrastructure costs, PFAS priorities (kxly920.com) — Cheney city leaders are weighing whether to stop adding fluoride to the municipal water supply as they juggle costly infrastructure needs and PFAS contamination concerns. Local dentists are urging the city to keep fluoridation and are seeking outside funding, with the City Council set to revisit the issue and take public comment at its Oct. 13 meeting.
   

• Skyway Elementary takes shape (cheneyfreepress.com) — Cheney Public Schools’ $72 million bond is transforming local campuses, with the new Skyway Elementary now framed, roof work starting this month, and major kitchen and lighting upgrades underway at Salnave, Windsor, Sunset, and Cheney High. Several projects, including new bus loops, stadium improvements, and upgraded chillers, are already finished, while remaining work continues through late 2026 and into 2027.
   

• Gonzaga Prep earns first win; Cheney moves to 2-0 in league with win over Central Valley (theolympian.com) — Cheney High’s football team delivered a big road win Friday, jumping to a 27-0 halftime lead and beating Central Valley 41-14 to move to 2-0 in GSL 3A play. Quarterback Connor Collins threw three touchdown passes, while Kaden Rasmussen scored twice through the air and added a 76-yard fumble return to cap the Blackhawks’ dominant performance.
