📰 News we're reading

• New Tacoma and DuPont low-income housing projects get funded (thenewstribune.com) — Pierce County has approved nearly $5 million to build the Fairway at DuPont, a 113-unit affordable apartment complex on Garry Oaks Avenue for low-income households, people with disabilities, and larger families. Funded by a countywide sales tax, this project is part of a broader $11.4 million package for new affordable housing, and directly expands options for DuPont residents struggling with high rents or housing insecurity.

• Caught on camera: The debate over Flock Safety hits the streets of Pierce County (thenewstribune.com) — Pierce County's growing network of license-plate and traffic cameras now includes systems in nearby cities such as Puyallup, Tacoma, Lakewood and DuPont, raising fresh questions about privacy and police transparency. While most of the debate is centered in Puyallup, the same Flock Safety and traffic-camera technology affects drivers passing through DuPont, as state lawmakers tighten rules and local departments weigh how visible and accountable these tools should be.
