3 Fall From Ferris Wheel At Port Townsend Rhododendron Festival: Reports

Three people were injured and fell an estimated 18 feet, according to reports.

PORT TOWNSEND, WA - Three people were injured Thursday night in a fall off a Ferris wheel at the Port Townsend Rhododendron Festival, according to reports. The three people injured include a 6-year-old, a woman in her 40s, and a woman age 69. The 69-year-old was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle while the other two victims were taken to a hospital near Port Townsend, according to KIRO 7.

The bucket the three people were riding in apparently tipped over while the ride was in motion, according to reports. The victims fell about 18 feet, according to reports. Investigators from the state Department of Labor and Industries were reportedly on the way to the carnival to inspect the ride.

The Rhododendron Festival - also called the Rhody Festival - was first celebrated in 1936, and has happened every year since - except for a hiatus during World War II. Thursday was the opening night of the carnival portion of the festival. The carnival takes place at Jefferson County Memorial Field in downtown Port Townsend.
