3 Snohomish Jail Guards Injured In Fight With Inmate

A single inmate injured three corrections officers in an assault that happened early Wednesday.

EVERETT, WA - An inmate in the Snohomish County Jail's maximum security unit assaulted and injured three corrections officers in an early-morning fight.

The fight happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday after an inmate, who was out of his cell for free time, attacked a guard, apparently without provocation. Two other corrections officers arrived to help subdue the 28-year-old inmate, but were also injured.

The inmate was restrained and treated for injuries. The three corrections officers sustained non-life threatening injuries, the Snohomish County Sheriff's office reported.

The inmate was being held after a March 5 arrest in Lake Stevens on suspicion of resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree assault of a police officer, and burglary.

A Snohomish corrections officer was assaulted in December in the jail's psychiatric unit. The 53-year-old guard was the only one on duty in the psych unit, but other officers were able to get to the scene quickly. That officer's injuries were described as non-life threatening.
