A New View From Highway 99: Dick's Drive-In Sign Goes Up in Edmonds

The retro design is in keep with the other restaurants in Puget Sound.

It's a sign of the times. At least in Puget Sound.

Construction workers from Dick's Drive-In, the iconic Seattle-based fast-food chain, on Wednesday began installation of the restaurant's equally famous sign at its . The sign, which can't be missed from SR 99, directs travelers to its upcoming site at SR 99 and 220th Street Southwest.

The 25-foot sign maintains Dick's retro look, which was not retro when the first Dick's opened in Wallingford in 1954. But it's retro now, and a familiar look for Puget Sound residents. The only difference between the Wallingford sign and the Edmonds one, said Dick’s spokeswoman Carrie Shaw, is that it will not rotate as they are no longer permitted by local building codes.
