Amber Alert Cancelled After 9-year-old Canadian Girl Found

Bellingham police found the girl on Monday afternoon.

The young girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert issued on Monday afternoon was found by Bellingham police inside a Catholic church.

Nine-year-old Makayla Estrada Weber was found with her mother, Wilma Estrada, 48. Estrada had allegedly taken her daughter from New Westminster, British Columbia, and crossed over the border to Washington.

Police issued the amber alert around 2:20 p.m. on Monday.

The mother apparently went to the church and asked for them to contact authorities. Estrada was arrested on a charge of first-degree custodial interference, according to the Bellingham Herald. Weber would be placed temporarily with a foster family.
