GUEST SPEAKERS

Phil Watson – the Director of Special Projects for the Second Amendment Foundation

Phil Watson is also a reporter and editor for TheGunMag, and executive director for the International Association for the Protection of Civilian Arms Rights.

Before venturing into politics Phil helped successfully run several businesses. He later went to work on local legislative, congressional, and ballot initiative campaigns before interning with the Arlington, VA-based Leadership Institute and US Congress.

Recently he rallied 28 gun rights groups from 20 different countries to oppose and lobby against the UN Arms Trade Treaty. His project "Meet the Mayors" gained national recognition in highlighting the hypocrisy of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Mayor's Against Illegal Guns. His public records requests on the Seattle gun buyback uncovered the much written about ‘gun control playbook’ and recently resulted in a settlement from the city for $38,000 for illegally withholding public records.

Phil also appears frequently in media interviews and public gatherings in support of Second Amendment rights. His online debate against state Senator Adam Kline is the second most watched debate in the history of the Seattle Times.

Phil was born and raised in Lakewood, Washington. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and is a veteran of the US Army Reserves.

Detective Sergeant Jim Upton – “Constitutional authority and obligations of a county sheriff”

Detective Sergeant Jim Upton is running for Snohomish County Sheriff. He is currently the Detective Sergeant at the Sheriff's South Precinct. Jim's earlier Navy career resulted in a Meritorious Service Medal, two Commendations Medals, three Achievement Medals, five Flag Letters of Commendation, and numerous commendation letters for my efforts in strategic management of military personnel and program management.

James Watkins – “The Importance of the Second Amendment”

James Watkins is a long-time Second Amendment Activist starting with the ‘Shall Issue’ vs. ‘May Issue’ concealed carry efforts in the 1980’s.  He’s an NRA certified instructor, has worked extensively with Scouts and new shooters, and is very active politically.  In his private life, James is an entrepreneur who has been involved in technology for his entire career.  He is a passionate advocate for free enterprise, individual responsibility, and personal freedoms.  James will talk about the history and current state of the polarizing Gun Control debates and examine the actual facts behind the rhetoric.

Representative Elizabeth Scott – “The Importance of Gun Safety”

Elizabeth represents the 39th Legislative District in Olympia. She proudly fights for smaller, smarter government with a focus on public safety, education, and caring for the vulnerable. One lobbyist described Elizabeth as “(former State Senator) Val Stevens with attitude."

Hope you will join us!
