📰 News we're reading

• Council Sept. 8 set to approve fiscal sustainability task force members; hold public hearing on tree code (myedmondsnews.com) — Edmonds residents face big decisions Tuesday as the city council moves to approve a 15-member Fiscal Sustainability Task Force and take public comment on major tree code changes, including new limits on private tree removal and a 35% canopy goal. The meeting also covers unlicensed food vendors, aquifer protection near Deer Creek, and upcoming budget discussions you can follow in person or via Zoom.

• Solutions elusive in Snohomish County community shaken by teen gun violence (heraldnet.com) — Youth gun violence in Lynnwood is driving calls to reinstate school resource officers in the Edmonds School District and expand youth mental health support funded partly through Swedish Edmonds lease revenue. Local officials, prosecutors, and advocates debate tougher juvenile gun laws, school policing, and new mentoring and youth councils as they search for earlier interventions that could protect south Snohomish County teens.

• Another chance to 'Ask the Mayor' at the summer market (myedmondsnews.com) — You'll have another chance to talk directly with Edmonds Mayor Mike Rosen at the Summer Museum Market on Saturday, Sept. 12, right in front of City Hall on 5th Avenue North. Drop by his 'Ask the Mayor' booth anytime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to share concerns, ask questions, or simply chat while enjoying one of the city's favorite weekend gatherings.
