Today's riddle: Why do Norway's navy ships all have barcodes? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Biennial budget, South County Fire presentation, utility rates on Oct. 6 Edmonds Council agenda (myedmondsnews.com) — Edmonds residents face potential increases in water, sewer, and stormwater rates as the City Council reviews a new utility rate study and begins debating the 2027–29 biennial budget Tuesday night. The meeting will also feature a briefing on South County Fire's large bond proposal, zoning changes to meet new state law, and ways to participate in person or via Zoom.
2. Railway repairs to cancel 22 ferry trips at Edmonds dock this week (seattletimes.com) — If you depend on the Edmonds‑Kingston ferry, plan around major cancellations Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, when rail maintenance will block vehicle access to the Edmonds dock. Several evening and early‑morning sailings are scrubbed, with service resuming midmorning Wednesday, so Edmonds travelers may need to reroute via Kingston passenger ferries or other crossings.
3. Strike shuts down Edmonds/Kingston route all day Monday (edmondsbeacon.com) — If you rely on the Edmonds–Kingston ferry, expect no sailings today after engine room workers called in sick, sidelining most of the fleet. Washington State Ferries also warns that Main Street rail crossing repairs in Edmonds will soon block access to the terminal, temporarily suspending service again for local drivers and foot passengers.
4. The Nutcracker (shorelineareanews.com) — Edmonds families can plan ahead for Olympic Ballet Theatre's Nutcracker run at Edmonds Center for the Arts this December, with multiple full and abridged performances and tickets starting in the low $30s. The production promises classic Tchaikovsky music, elaborate sets, and school-friendly matinees, plus additional showtimes in Everett for those wanting more options.
