Union partners with Pacific Raceways for charity event

"Dog Days" -- Machinists Union District 751's annual joint fundraiser with Pacific Raceways -- will be Aug. 15-18 at the speedway in Kent.

KENT — Machinists Union District Lodge 751 is teaming up once again with Pacific Raceways for a joint charity fundraising event.

The union is selling discount $5 tickets for drag racing on Aug. 15-18 at the track, which is at 31001 144th Ave. SE in Kent.

The tickets are on sale at all District 751 union halls around Puget Sound. They are good for entry on any one day of the event. Children under 6 get in free.

Racing starts at 9 a.m. each day, and will feature racing in the top alcohol and sportsman classes and the Screamin’ Eagles Harley Davidson series.

This will be the eighth year that District 751 and Pacific Raceways have teamed up for the “Dog Days” event. The previous seven race weekends have raised nearly $43,000 for Guide Dogs.

Originally founded in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and woman at 49 employers across Washington, Oregon and California. In 2012, union volunteers gave more than 10,500 hours to community service, and raised nearly $299,000 for Guide Dogs of America.
