Brighton School(R) Places Eighth in the World at Destination Imagination Global Finals

Sixth graders from Brighton School competed against more than 1,000 teams and were recognized for their efforts to improve the environment

Lynnwood, Wash. (June 24, 2015) – Brighton School sixth graders’ environmental preservation and restoration project placed eighth in the world at the Destination Imagination Global Finals, the largest creative problem solving organization in the world. The team advanced to the Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn. after placing second at the Washington State Destination Imagination Finals. For the past seven months, students cleared piles of invasive plants, cut brush, planted trees and removed litter in local outdoor areas. Overall, students completed a total of 12 environmental projects and spent more than 500 hours working with local environmental partners, including Willow Creek Hatchery, Adopt-A-Stream, Lynnwood Parks, Mountlake Terrace Parks, King County, Edmonds Beach Rangers and the Nature Conservancy.

Destination Imagination is a challenge-based learning competition that teaches project management skills, perseverance, collaboration and global competency. Student teams choose from a variety of challenges, design and implement solutions, and then present their solutions at the regional, state and global competitions.
