Brighton School(R) Places First in Washington State Destination Imagination Championship

Students won six awards and earned bids to compete in the global finals

LYNNWOOD, Wash. (April 8, 2015) – On March 28, three teams from Brighton School in Lynnwood won six awards during the Washington State Destination Imagination Championship in Wenatchee. Brighton School’s fifth grade team, Homeless Helpers, placed first in the state and also won the Instant Challenge competition for its community service project of donating backpacks filled with necessities for the homeless. The sixth grade team, 3rd Rock, placed second in the state’s Community Service challenge for its efforts in improving local parks. The team was also awarded the prestigious Torch Bearer award, which honors teams whose solutions have an extraordinary effect in and beyond their local communities. Brighton School’s middle school team, Some May Call Us Tim, placed third in the Middle School challenge and won the coveted DaVinci award for exceptional creativity for its illusion of making a student disappear.

Brighton School’s Homeless Helpers and 3rd Rock teams omHHwill compete with students from different states and countries in the Destination Imagination Global Finals on May 18 in Knoxville, Tenn. Destination Imagination is a challenge-based learning competition that teaches project management skills, perseverance, collaboration and global competency. Student teams choose from a variety of challenges, design and implement solutions, and then present their solutions at the regional, state and global competitions.
