Buyouts, Layoffs Coming For Boeing Engineers: Report
Layoff notices could be sent out by Jan. 20, according to reports.

The vice president of engineering at Boeing Commercial Airplanes has sent a memo to engineers warning of an approaching round of buyouts and layoffs, according to multiple reports.
Buyout notices could be sent out Friday to workers in Washington and other states; 60-day layoff notices could arrive by Jan. 20.
“As we enter 2017, our plan calls for us to reduce our Engineering staff,” the Boeing vice president, John Hamilton, wrote in the memo, according to reports.

In August, Boeing sent 100 layoff notices to workers in Puget Sound; the company cut its workforce by 8 percent total in 2016. However, the company circulated an internal memo in December stating that it would need to make more cuts in 2017.
Meanwhile, Boeing's chief rival, Airbus, plans to cut about 1,200 jobs this year.
