"Circles - Lines - Pansies" - New Paintings by Daniel Neish
Gallery North announces the opening of an exhibit of new paintings by local artist Daniel Neish.
A new art exhibit opens February 1st, 2015 at Gallery North in Edmonds featuring new paintings by local artist Daniel Neish.
Born in England, Neish grew up in Boulder, Colorado and lives in Seattle. He teaches painting, ceramics, and drawing at Edmonds Community College. Neish received his MFA in Ceramics at the University of Washington in Seattle, and his BFA from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Prior to beginning his career in teaching, he attended an artist residency program at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
Daniel Neish’s most current work continues his exploration of that which is personal and pertinent to his life. His abstract painting emphasizes ideas and imagery that originate visually from everyday experiences. “I like to explore the simple patterns, beauty, and joy that can be found in domestic life; the flowers, the unique grain of a wood floor, or other simple images from around my home,” says Neish.

Starting with several drawings, Neish fine tunes the idea over a period of time until he feels the composition is right. He then transfers the finished drawing to canvas and works out the colors, sometimes adding elements of collage.
The show includes several large paintings and, many small abstracts. He usually paints the small abstracts after completion of one of the bigger paintings. “They are very free, with no drawings and no preconceived ideas or intentions,” says Neish. “I work directly on the canvas, responding to the lines, shapes, and colors. Often these small paintings open up possibilities for the larger series of paintings.”
