Bring your drawing tools, watercolors or acrylics, a few pastels and a lot of creative spirit! This one day workshop will be dedicated to having fun making strange portraits. First Joe will review some simple measuring lessons on getting the eyes, nose and mouth in the right place and some anatomy tips for drawing these features too. Then he will show you different ways to create strange, whacky, edgy, emotional, funny, ugly, scary and surreal portraits. You will use drawing techniques such as blind contour, distorted grids and minimalist line/mass to draw portraits. You will also start drawings with non-objective marks, spontaneous abstract block-in and old, bad paintings as under-paintings and then find faces in the abstracts and develop them to a final portrait. Combining human features with animal features or floral plants also will be tried. This workshop is designed to have fun, to be creative and to loosen up.
