Driftwood Players to Stage Rodgers and Hammerstein Classic: "The King and I"

continue their current season beginning Nov. 25 with Rodgers and Hammersteins' The King & I.

The director is Alan Wilkie.

The classic musical pits East vs. West in a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting love story. When summoned to Bangkok's Royal Palace in 1862 to tutor the many children and wives of the King of Siam, English widow Anna Leonowens struggles with the King's barbaric behavior.

Over time, however, the two come to understand, respect and even embrace one another's traditions and values.

The King & I's score includes  “Getting to Know You,” “Hello, Young Lovers” and “Shall We Dance?”

The King & I will be performed Nov. 25-Dec. 18 at the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St, Edmonds. Showtimes are Thursdays through Fridays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. An American Sign Language performance is Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $23, $20 for those 18 and under, seniors 60 and over and military with ID in uniform.
