Edmonds-Woodway Boys Swim and Dive Team Ends Season at State

The Edmonds-Woodway boys swim and dive team, led by sophomore Peter Doolittle, ended their season at King County Aquatic Center by participating in the 4A state championships

The Edmonds-Woodway swim and dive team concluded their season on Saturday at the 4A swim and dive state championships at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Sophomore Peter Doolittle was the only member of the Warriors to swim in Saturday's finals, finishing with a time of 5:04.90 in the 500 free in the B-Final of the event. He placed eighth.

Kellen Jay swam a time of 5:08.69 in the same event during the preliminary round. Doolittle, along with Michael Hsu, Peter Chong and Thomas Ernst, swam a time of 1:37.34 in the 200 medley relay.

Despite having only one swimmer make Saturday's finals, Edmonds-Woodway coach Kate Trettevik was upbeat about the season her team put together and talked at length about her swimmers.

"I love coming to the state meet because it's one of the truly great pools to swim at and it's really a great atomsphere for the guys," said Trettevik.

The coach also mentioned that despite not making the finals, the E-W 200 medley relay team swam their best time of the season on Friday during the preliminary round, finishing with a score of 147.34.

"It's just a great bunch of guys," said the E-W coach. "They all work so hard and they've done a treamendous job this season."

Trettevik, who is in her fourth season at E-W, on Saturday was forced to bid adeiu to a group of seniors who she began her career at Edmonds-Woodway with.

The coach mentioned it would be a difficult situation, but that the mark they left on the program and the work they put in for her will be the lasting memories she takes from their time together.

Winning the 4A title was another 4A WesCo South school, the Kamiak Knights.

Kamiak took control of the team scoring early and never relented, finishing with a score of 240.50, which was 70 full points ahead of second place finisher Todd Beamer.

Mercer Island won the 3A team scoring and Sehome took the 2A team title.
