Edmonds Yacht Fire: Cleanup Continues While Investigators Search for a Cause

The smell of smoke lingers, while oil slicks surround the scene of the fire. Fire investigators and the Coast Guard are looking into the cause.

On New Year's Day, curious onlookers checked out the damage to two 50-foot boats destroyed in a P Dock the day before.

The Great Scape was parked in a lot on the east side of Admiral Way, while Sea for Two was up on the lift in the west parking lot.

An insurance agent, parked next to Great Scape, kept the curous from getting too close. It was the Great Scape that sunk and was lifted from the water by floatation devices.

The smell of the burnt boats hung in the air. In the marina itself, oil slicks could be seen.

Damage to both yachts and the dock is expected to total more than $600,000. Fire investigators, and the Coast Guard, are working to determine how the fire started. Crews from the Port of Edmonds set up containment booms on Friday, and the state Department of Ecology is working to control and prevent environmental damage.
