"Essentially Edmonds" Contest Winner Shoots Image of—What Else?—the Ferry
Tom Newitt takes first place for a picture of the ferry framed by old pier.
You can't snap a photo that's more essential to Edmonds' being than one of the ferry.
Edmonds resident Tom Newitt proved that by winning the "Essentially Edmonds" photo contest sponsored by the City of Edmonds Arts Commission and the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation.
Newitt's photo, called Edmonds Progress, shows the ferry framed by the old piers, with kids playing among them, which is at Brackett's Landing South.

The ferry was the most frequently photographed subject among the 75 photos submitted by 32 contestants.
Photographers 18 and older were invited to of what they believe captures the essence of Edmonds, the places and people that make Edmonds a special community to live in and visit.

Second place went to Marc Weinber of Shoreline and two honorable mentions to Peter Olsen of Edmonds and Lynne Hann of Anacortes. The awards were presented at a reception on Oct. 20 during the .
Newell's photo will be displayed in City Hall. All entries are eligible for use on the City’s new website, and a link to a slideshow of the entries will be available in mid-November.
