Fire Department Responses: Rescuers Free Trapped Drivers in 2 Incidents

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 382 calls the week of March 22-28: 305 emergency medical aid calls, 23 motor vehicle collisions, 21 fires, seven service calls, two natural gas leaks, two hazardous materials responses and 22 automatic fire alarms.
March 22
COLLISION: At 6:53 a.m., a two-car rear-end collision was reported at 134th Place SE and 61st Avenue SE east of Everett. Firefighters transported one patient to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

SAWDUST DUCT FIRE: At 3:24 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the woodshop at Glacier Peak High School east of Mill Creek. The shop was evacuated. The fire was contained to a sawdust extraction system in the woodshop building. irefighters checked the system to make sure there weren’t any embers left in the duct system or the sawdust collection barrels. There were no reports of injuries.
COLLISION: At 4:22 p.m., an eastbound car struck a barrier at 240th Street SW and Edmonds Way in Edmonds. Firefighter extricated the driver from the wrecked car and transported him to Harborview Medical Center.

March 23
BRUSH FIRE: At 6:08 p.m., flames from a barbecue ignited bushes and spread to a tree near a building in the 22800 block of Lakeview Drive in Mountlake Terrace. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire before it could cause any property damage or injuries.
COLLISION: At 9:10 p.m., a two-car collision was reported in the 19600 block of 80th Avenue W in Edmonds. Firefighters transported four patients to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.
March 24
DUMPSTER FIRE: At 11:18 p.m., firefighters extinguished a Dumpster fire in the 21500 block of 48th Avenue W in Mountlake Terrace.
March 26
COLLISION: At 12:48 a.m., a car went off the road and struck a tree in the 8000 block of Olympic View Drive in Edmonds. The driver and a passenger were trapped in the car and were rescued by firefighters. Firefighters transported one patient to Harborview Medical Center and one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.
COLLISION: At 7:50 p.m., a motorcyclist and a car collided at 148th Street SW and Highway 99 north of Lynnwood. The motorcyclist received minor injuries and was transported by firefighters to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.
March 27
WATER DAMAGE: At 9:04 a.m., a sprinkler head was accidentally damaged at Glacier Peak High School and more than 100 gallons of water flowed onto the floor of the upper gymnasium. Firefighters assisted with the cleanup.
CHIMNEY FIRE: At 9:37 p.m., a chimney fire was reported at a home in the 10600 block of 235th Place SW in Edmonds. The residents evacuated and firefighters extinguished the fire, which was contained to the chimney area. There were no injuries.
Fire District 1 is the largest provider of fire and emergency medical services in Snohomish County, serving more than 220,000 residents in the unincorporated Snohomish County, Brier, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway.
