Gallery North: Meeting "Art-Loving People in Edmonds" for 50 Years

Past exhibitors are in the spotlight this month during the gallery's golden anniversary.

in Edmonds, one of the oldest cooperative art galleries in the United States, with an exhibit of work from past Gallery North members.

The October exhibit includes several noted artists from around Puget Sound. The artists’ reception is open to the public and is Oct. 9 from 1-4 p.m. Artists will also greet the public at the on Oct. 20 from 5-8 p.m.

“It was a life-changing experience,” says artist Shirley Palm, a member for 40 years. “I walked in a total stranger and have made friendships and connections that have lasted a lifetime.”

Gallery North has an active membership of 23 professional artists that keep the gallery running. The person who greets you when you visit the gallery is a professional artist and is knowledgeable about the art in the gallery. “I enjoy meeting the art-loving people in Edmonds,” says artist Kathleen A. Johnson. “And it is nice to have that personal connection with the buyers of artwork.” 

Gallery North, founded in 1961, continues to promote and sell the work of local artists in the heart of downtown Edmonds. The gallery also offers demonstrations and classes run by member artists as another way to promote the arts in the community.
