Set in 1960 in a small town in northern Montana, the book tells of a 12-year-old boy trying to figure out the world around him. All sorts of colorful characters come through the doors of his father’s bar/pawn shop as he spies from his backroom perch. Doig casts his storytelling spell with beautiful language and a near-palpable sense of place.
