Man Shot by Police Along Highway 99 Identified

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner has identified the 36-year-old man who was shot and killed by police on Monday.

EDMONDS, WA - A man who was shot and killed by a Lynnwood police officer along Highway 99 near Edmonds earlier this week has been identified.

The shooting victim was 36-year-old Jeremy R. Dowell of Mountlake Terrace. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner said in a press release that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened on Monday along the 19000 block of Highway 99, about five blocks northeast of the Edmonds Community College campus, at around 10 a.m. The shooting investigation closed the road until 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

According to police, Dowell entered a carpet store along the 19200 block of Highway 99 and caused a disturbance. Dowell then ran outside the store, where he was confronted by police. Lynnwood police said Dowell kept running out into the highway, and was brandishing a knife or other sharp weapon. One officer shot Dowell when he advanced toward him and would not obey commands.

Three officers were at the scene when the shooting happened. The officer who shot Dowell has been with Lynnwood police for three years.

The Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team (SMART) is investigating the incident.
