Man Survives Half Hour Underwater In Skykomish River

The man was spotted struggling in the water near Sportsman Park around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

SULTAN, WA - A man who spent nearly a half-hour underwater in the Skykomish River Tuesday was pulled from the river with a pulse, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. The man was first spotted struggling near Sportsman Park around 3 p.m. He was taken to the hospital at around 4 p.m.

A witness called 911 to report seeing a man acting strangely. The caller reported that the man then jumped into the river, appeared to be swimming, and then disappeared under the water.

The man went under the water in a part of the river that's about 12 feet deep. Swift currents in the area prevented a quicker rescued, according to the sheriff's office.

The man was taken to the hospital after medics performed CPR.

Sportsman Park is located along U.S. 2 at the confluence of the Skykomish and Sultan rivers.
