Marko Liias Praises President Obama's Support of Marriage Equality

"No politician should be able to tell a loving couple who they can marry," the Edmonds representative says.

State Rep. Marko Liias of Edmonds, one of six openly gay members of the Washington State Legislature, released the following statement in response to President Obama’s endorsement of marriage equality on Thursday:

“Once again, President Obama has taken a stand for marriage equality for our gay and lesbian families. Like millions of Americans, he understands that marriage is fundamentally about love and commitment, and no politician should be able to tell a loving couple who they can marry. This is yet another reminder why we need to re-elect Barack Obama, elect Jay Inslee, and approve Referendum 74 this fall.”

Democrat Liias is on the general election ballot on Nov. 6 against Republican challenger Kevin Morrison.
