Artist at Work: Police Department Mural Now Being Painted
The mural, by Edmonds artist Andy Eccleshall, celebrates the department's 100th anniversary this week.
Award-winning artist Andy Eccleshall of Edmonds this week began work on a that celebrates the department's 100th anniversary this year.
Eccleshall says he expects to finish the mural early next week. The public is invited to see the finished product Oct. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. at an open house at the station, now located at the Public Safety Complex at Five Avenue North and Bell Street.
Eccleshall's mural depicts the front of the , which as the Carnegie Library once housed the police department, offices for city business, the council chambers and city jail.

The image of that original police station, with a vintage city police car parked out front, is the basis of the mural. The artwork will be seen inside at the large open stairwell that links the first and second floors of today’s police station.
The money for Eccleshall's commission came from police department employees and the sale of coffee cups, travel mugs, water bottles, glass steins and reusable grocery bags bearing various Edmonds Police patch and badge designs.

The police department is also getting support from the Edmonds Police Foundation, Edmonds Historical Museum and Campbell/Nelson Volkswagen.
The Edmonds police department is currently the subject of called "Stick 'Em Up! Celebrating 100 Years of the Edmonds Police Department.”
