Naked Man Lights Edmonds House On Fire While Police Inside

Police entered the home and found the man holding a gas can and lighter.

EDMONDS, WA - Police responded to a bizarre scene at a home along Olympic View Drive late Thursday night where a naked man lit a house on fire while officers were still inside.

Edmonds police responded to a home along the 19100 block of Olympic View Drive around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night on a call of a disturbance. A 30-year-old man was inside a home breaking things, and police said they could hear the ruckus from a block away.

When officers pulled up, they found the 30-year-old suspect standing naked outside. The man then went back inside the house, and then the officers saw smoke and flames.

Inside, the officers found the man standing holding a gas can and a lighter, they said.

The suspect began ligthing parts of the house on fire, and the officers chased him into the garage where they were able to subdue him using a Taser. By that time, police said, the house was fully engulfed in flames, and they had to flee for safety.

Neither the officers nor the suspect were injured by the fire, and there was no one else inside the home at the time. The suspect, who is the son of the homeowners, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

Detectives are working to determine how to charge the suspect. Olympic View Drive may be closed for some time Friday morning as the investigation wraps up.
