Olympic Ballet Theatre’s (OBT) 2019–20 performance season will open on August 3rd with the annual Summer Performance at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. The highlight of this performance will be the premiere of an Act I excerpt of Don Quixote. This charming romantic comedy was originally choreographed by Maruis Petipa to a score by Ludwig Minkus, premiered in 1869 in Russia. Don Quixote has undergone several revisions over the past century, but continues to be a tour de force requiring a company of many skilled dancers. The year’s performance will also feature pieces choreographed by local choreographers, including Karen Herr who will be working in conjunction with Olympic Ballet School’s Summer Intensives and will be choreographing a performance piece for selected students.

On October 26 OBT will hold their annual Dinner & Auction, this year sporting a spooky Halloween theme – costumes are encouraged! This annual fundraiser includes live entertainment as well as excellent food and wine, silent and live auctions on a wide variety of items, and other festivities. All proceeds go to supporting OBT’s performance season.

And what would an OBT performance season be without its annual production of The Nutcracker? This holiday favorite features choreography by Artistic Directors Mara Vinson & Oleg Gorboulev, after the original choreography of Marius Petipa, and Tchaikovsky’s iconic score. Performances of The Nutcracker will run from December 13–23, presented in Edmonds and Everett. This year’s run will include new performance times—an additional abridged matinee performance on Friday, December 20, and an all new Monday afternoon full-length performance on December 23, both at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

This enchanting fairy tale will be returning in the spring of 2020, March 28 & 29 in Edmonds and April 4 in Everett.
